Rockhampton Men’s Shed Inc.

I have noticed that the Google information list on the right-hand side of our page listing that is shown when looking up The Rockhampton Men’s Shed Inc.’s web page is shown as Permanently Closed- this is incorrect. If you bypass this closed sign you can access the web page without a problem. We are trying to rectify this situation and hope to have a result shortly. Regards Jim Lawler Chairman

In with the New

Well we finally got started in our new workshop on the 4th January and our members who are back from holidays have started i/n a big way with 3 new members Ross, Peter & Bob who donated all his equipment to us and it will be a big boost to our guys with a new lathe, 14-inch bandsaw, triton saw, and router as well as his tools and blanks to make pens and jig to do tongue and grooves in draws, so with all that it gives us a new start. We will also be recruiting more new members for our new lathes to fill in the rest of the week. Ivan is keen to start again. We are also progressing with our 3D printing having started doing medallions on the engraving side of the printer. So till next time happy trails.

Out with the old & in with the new

We have finally started to move our equipment from the old dog box at building 72 to our new sheds opposite the football field and so far most things have progressed smoothly. But give it time I am sure something will go wrong there are too many hurdles to go over yet, as we still wait for the builder to erect building 3 and try and work out our parking and internal fit-out, it never seems to end with everyone trying to get their 2 bob’s worth of us. And all this for our community, you would think that everyone would get behind us, but no, what a disappointment. But as we do we will keep charging ahead and move on past the negative thinkers, our members are better than them.

Draft Sign for the Front of the Building & Draft Sign for the doors of the utility

In case you don’t know we have been donated a 1 Tonne Utility Truck by Gladrock Transport.

Could I have some feedback on both these signs as they have taken some time to design I have shown both the Utility signs to Jason from Gladrock and he has told me he has a preference for the dark wood sign but he has said he thinks the design should be left up to us?

Rocky Men’s Shed starts a new era

Rocky Men’s Shed has joined with Gladrock Transport as its major sponsor for our dress shirts. Jason has delivered our new shirts on Friday last and we also have been successful in Gladrock agreeing to supply us with ba 1-tonne utility to allow us to use it to pick up & deliver what we may need so our members no longer need to use their utilities to pick up and deliver anymore. This is a major step forward for us and allows the shed to become more independent. Thanks go to the members who have given the shed the use of their vehicles over the past years. Better photos of the members in their shirts and a picture of our new vehicle will be posted when time allows. Totally Workwear Gladstone also becomes part of the package as well. This allows Rocky Men’s Shed to keep up with our policy of supporting local businesses in place. Remember by supporting local businesses helps keep their doors open.

Message from the Sec/Treasurer

Hi Everyone,

The third shed has been marked out for the concrete slab to go down next week (late in the week). Now we can actually see how much room is left in the front of the land for parking.

In the meantime the kit is due to arrive round the 15th November and should be up by the end of November.

The fitout is progressing slowly and our Ladies Auxiliary is beginning to move their materials and other bits and pieces into the allotted area in Shed 2.

As usual money is short, but we (our members) are very proud that we could finance the sewerage and water connections ourselves – this we never thought was possible due to the quotes received from tradespeople within our Community. We (our members) have saved heaps through the generosity and support of a lot of businesses again within our Community. You know who you are and you also know how grateful we are to you all.

In amongst all of this going on , we had some unwelcome visitors who decided that they would break into our shed and relieve us of some equipment . Hoever, they were seen by the maintainence guys of CQU and we recovered our possessions with little damage. Our thanks go to these guys for a job well done. The police came and took some fingerprints, but one has to wonder why these young people get up to such antics. If we (the members) were asked what their punishjment would be – my guess would be that they could help us within the shed with the move for at least 7 days – even then I don’t think they would learn any lessons from this – being not to touch other people’s things.

“Til next time

Marion Lawler

Secretary/Treasurer
