The Iwasaki Foundation Chair, Desley Rial this week received the honor of turning the first sod for the Rockhampton Men’s Shed Complex on CQ University’s Rockhampton North campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CQUniversity this week celebrated a sod-turning ceremony to start the construction of the Rockhampton Men\u2019s Shed Complex on its Rockhampton North campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bold $450 000 plan, comprising of three sheds, was announced back in\nSeptember 2017 to cater to the growing community needs well into the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The community initially sought business\u2019 support, either monetary or\nin-kind, and thanks to the significant contributions from The Iwasaki\nFoundation and other organisations, including Hopkins\u2019 Brothers and The Caves\nQuarry, the construction process could begin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Iwasaki Foundation Chair, Desley Rial, who was given the honour of\nturning the first sod, said it provided approximately $130 000 in funding the\nhelp the community group get started, and another $50 000 previously for wood\nand metalworking equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Rockhampton Men’s Shed Inc. is a gathering place for retirees who\nwant to continue to put their decades of skills to use by building much-needed\nitems for the local community – and forge new bonds of friendship,\u201d Mrs Rial\nsaid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Shed is also a place to just relax have a cuppa and get that\nfeeling of usefulness and being part of something that gives what you want to\nachieve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIts purpose aligns with the foundation\u2019s vision, and for this reason,\nwe will continue to provide support wherever we can. The group has officially\nrecognised the foundation\u2019s contributions by naming the first of three\nsheds The Iwasaki Foundation Shed<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Rockhampton Men’s Shed Inc. has been located at CQUniversity since\n2014 and has secured a further 25-year lease for the new parcel of land \u2013\nopposite the C&K Ngundanoo Imbabee Community Childcare Centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CQUniversity is proud to support a community group such as the\nRockhampton Men\u2019s Shed and be a part of the value it’s adding to the whole\ncommunity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
